On May 29, Members of the Political Board of the Covenant of Mayors met with Vice-President for the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič and Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate Action & Energy. During this cordial and fruitful exchange, political representatives of Cologne, Heidelberg, Porto and Tampere and of the North-West Croatia Regional Energy Agency community thanked the two EU leaders for their support during their 5 years office and their legacy in terms of climate and recognition of local and regional authorities.
Once again, the representatives of the European Commission praised the role of cities creating a path towards a carbon-neutral Europe. The importance of the Covenant Political Board as the “Guardian of continuous dialogue between the European Commission and Cities” was emphasized.
Board Members also showed a clear will to answer the call for climate actions expressed by their citizens in the previous months: the demands coming from young people in the streets have been heard at the local level. They also expressed their will to contribute with the European Commission and Member States to a stronger and more efficient governance of the Energy Union.
